Drum Major Tryouts

Some background: On June 29,
2017, EOUMB Alumni Adam Enger, Shakquel Peters, Desmond Drake,
and Joshua Reserve began working with members of the Science
Park High School and Barringer High School combined
band that is now called the Legion of Boom Marching Band .

They made a video demonstration
for the drum major high school seniors who tried out for the
position. The final three candidates had a month to train with
our Alumni before the tryout date.

On July 5th, 2017, the three
finalist candidates arrived at Science Park High School at
approximately 12:00 PM and began to stretch. When the Science
Park band director Mr. Mario McMiller arrived, he asked them
several questions along the lines of : What inspired you to be
drum major? What is the role of a drum major? As drum major what
would you change about the band?
Then it was time for the
candidates to perform their routine. See the video below:

Later that night, Enyshia Downey
was announced to be the first drum major of the Legion of Boom
Julian DeJesus was announced to
be president and alto saxophone section leader.
Opoku Doateng was announced to be
trombone section leader and historian.
What's next? Our alumni will
continue to help train and guide the band as they start Summer
Band Camp for 2017.
On August 14, 2017 Leadership
Training for section leaders begins for Band Camp.
The following week the entire
Legion of Boom Marching Band will be attending Band Camp.
