After leaving their staging area
at McDonalds, the Band walks to the police department building.
From here they will march down Arlington Avenue to Elmwood Park.
One of the advantages of being
under Safe Haven PAL is that from now on they will always have
lots of police around to guard and protect them and escort them
to and from events.
Meanwhile, at Elmwood Park Field
House, the festivities have already begun and the crowd who will
be participating in the cancer walk is gathering rapidly.
The Band arrives at the entrance
to Elmwood Park and unpacks the larger drums from Mr. Goode's
Our three drum major candidates
for the day are (L-R) Saied Beckford, Desmond Drake, and Adam
Engers. The fourth candidate, is working with the Honor Guard
(flag twirlers) and can be seen in a photo below.
As soon as the drums are passed
out, the drummers begin to have a jam session to warm up. So far
we have a snare drum, a tenor drum, a bass drum and two pairs of
cymbals, thanks to Cheyney University and a private donor. By the next Fall Event, we should have some brass and
woodwinds playing, but for today, you can hear the rest of the
Band chanting in the video below.
The Band poses for the mandatory
group photo so their new police friends can take snapshots of the
Band that they are now sponsoring.
After all the photos, the parade
finally got underway and traveled west on Elmwood Avenue to meet
up with the City of Orange in Orange Park, and then return. We
have the video showing the start of the parade, and I will link
to others who have additional photos that should be included
